On this tour you will explore the world’s highest navigable lake, which is considered as the mythical origin of the Inca civilization. You’ll also have the the chance to learn more about the communities that live on the lake, separated from the rest of the world.
The Uros Floating Islands, located 14 kilometers from Puno, are home to more than 100 floating islands constructed entirely of Totora, an aquatic plant that grows on the lake shores.
“Uru” was the name of an ethnic group which live on Lake Titicaca before the Aymara nations and the Incas. Originally, the Uros were a small community who lived on tiny rafts called “floating homes”, which maintained them safe from the attack of larger populations.
These islands have become a great tourist attraction, due to the fact that their inhabitants allow visitors to experience the local culture and traditions. Also, visiting the Uros Floating Islands provides a unique opportunity to learn about the artisanal methods used to built the structures of the islands.
Currently, the islands residents utilize totora as the main material for building their dwellings and rafts, as well as food for their animals and as a cooking ingredient.

When we arrive at Uros, we will descend on one of the floating Islands, where the families that live in this section of Lake Titicaca will greet us.
Here, one of the local guides will talk with us about the daily life on the island and the customs that help the locals survive on the lake. Then, we will explore the island by ourselves. We will visit some traditional Totora-style dwellings, and dress in traditional Uros clothes.
At the end of our tour, we will board the boat that will take us back to the port of Puno, where our transportation will be ready to take you to your accommodation in Puno.
